Yesterday, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that air carriers achieved a record volume of cargo transport in 2024, supported by electronic trade. However, forecasts for the current year are uncertain due to the risk of a potential trade war.
According to IATA, the volume of air cargo increased by 11.3% last year, reaching record revenues that exceeded the indicators of 2021, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic leading to the collapse of many economies. IATA's Director General Willie Walsh noted that "air cargo carriers are expected to have outstanding production in 2024, transporting more cargo than ever before."
He added: "The rush is being driven by electronic trade," emphasizing the importance of cargo carriers for the global economy. "However, there are no guarantees that such growth will continue, given the uncertainty in the form of a potential trade war remains in the air," IATA pointed out.
