UAE athlete Maryam Karim won the first Asian gold medal for the UAE in the 400m hurdles for juniors, setting a new national record and breaking the Asian championship record.

The absolute star at the recent Asian championship for athletes up to 18 years old was our light athlete Meriam Karim. In the 400 meters hurdles final, Meriam achieved victory and brought home the first gold medal in the history of the country for the OAA in this age category. Meriam set a new record for her country in the 400 meters hurdles, surpassing the result of Chinese athlete Lian Yina, established in 2017. Additionally, she showed outstanding results at the start, finishing first in the preliminary heats with a time of 1:01.87. Securing the victory with a time of 59.55 seconds, Meriam not only etched her name in history but also brought the first gold to the OAA in this age category. The silver medal in this discipline was won by the Uzbek athlete, while the bronze went to a representative of Kazakhstan. Meriam displayed excellent results throughout the championship, starting with a strong start in the preliminary heats and finishing in first place in the final.
